In 1975, the Sfinks Festival started out as a small folk music get-together at the local school park in Boechout. Today, it is one of the most sought-after events of the summer for world music lovers.

Sfinks Festival, Belgium. © Jordi BoverOver 40,000 people attend each year, yet Sfinks manages to retain its original mellow ethos. It's still about people gathering for a celebration of music, food and dance.

Past visitors have included giants of world music such as Youssou N'Dour, Gilberto Gil, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Cheb Khaled and Femi Kuti.
