We want to keep you updated with our key news and share useful information with you.
Revenue Management have been trialling a new Re-accommodation Booking Tool on cancelled flights over the summer and autumn. The tool has proved a success, and will now be used to handle all British Airways operated prime flights that are cancelled within 48 hours of departure.
The Re-accommodation Booking Tool is a robotic that works on the Amadeus reservations system and is a big step forward from previous Amadeus Inventory Re-accommodation.
Customers will be advised of their flight cancellation by SMS/email. If the customer does not wish to accept the rebooking, they may be manually rebooked and Standard Customer Guidelines apply.
The new process for the collection of reservation change fees became effective for Sabre agents on the 30 September 2013.
Effective 11 November 2013, EMD-S will become the only valid document for collection of Reservation Change Fees and Refundable Balance. We will longer accept VMCOs issued in Amadeus Reservation System or VMPDs issued in BSP Link.
Failing to adhere to the correct document issuance and reporting process will result in an ADM being raised for GBP 25.00 or local currency equivalent.

We have introduced a new option on ba.com so Executive Club Members can use Avios as part payment against a commercial ticket when making bookings* directly with us.
Customers can use:
1,500 Avios to save £10 from the price of a commercial flight
3,000 Avios to save £20 from the price of a commercial flight
4,500 Avios to save £30 from the price of a commercial flight
Prices are per person and valid in either Euro Traveller or Club Europe.
The new option to will be available on shorthaul journeys departing from the UK from 29 October 2013, and shorthaul journeys departing from the rest of Europe on 4 November 2013.
Customers will still collect Avios and Tier Points on these flights. For example, a Blue Executive Club member on a return flight between London and Istanbul use 3,000 Avios to get £20 off the price of their ticket and still collect 3,104 Avios.
*Group and trade bookings are currently not available for Part-pay with Avios.
We are working with American Airlines and making changes to the combined schedule between London and New York JFK for the Summer 2014 schedule. The changes mean that customers will benefit from:
Together with American Airlines, we offer more lie-flat beds in premium cabins between New York and London – almost three times as many as the next alliance.
We are also the only alliance to offer first class on flights between London and New York JFK – offering five times more first class seats than all the other airlines combined between London and New York.
*including the combined London Heathrow to JFK, British Airways flights between London City and JFK and British Airways flights between London Heathrow and Newark.
The new service will start from 30 March 2014.
From Summer 2014 the BA181 will depart LHR at 18:55 arriving JFK at 21:55, the returning BA180 will depart JFK at 07:15 arriving LHR at 18:55. This change will continue through to the following Winter 2014 season. This service will replace one of American Airlines’ flights. American Airlines will deploy another of its new 777-300ER aircraft, meaning that all three American Airlines flights are now operated by the latest additions to its fleet.
We will add an extra daily frequency, BA181/180, to LHR-JFK from the Summer 2014 season, which will take our overall LHR-JFK frequency to 9 per day.
Following the successful trial on selected routes of new shorthaul fare types, including the Hand Baggage Only fare, we have decided to extended the fare types across all of the shorthaul point to point flights with the following execptions: London to Moscow (longhaul service)
Please ensure your staff are aware that when ticketing groups on BA ticket stock, they must include the 'Umbrella Deal' number in the Tour Code on the ticket.
All agency staff should be made aware of their Umbrella deal by their line managers/trainers when they are using BT ticketing.
The 'Umbrella Deal' number can be found in the PNR (each PNR will also include a sub-deal number, but this is clearly marked as not being for agent use, and should be ignored).
Failure to include the correct 'Umbrella deal' number in the Tour Code on the ticket will result in an ADM.
From 14 October 2013, EMD functionality will be extended to travel agents in BSP Ireland that use Sabre reservation systems. The functionlaity was already in place for Travelport and Amadeus agents siunce January 2013.
If you use Sabre, you will be expected to issue EMD documents to collect Reservation Change Fees from that date onwards.
A new check-in service is to be introduced on a trial basis with the aim to simplify our check-in and pre-departure process for customers.
Automatic Check-in (ACI) aims to remove the need for customers to use traditional check-in channels by offering to automatically check them in. Customers who are booked to travel after 2 October 2013 on an eligible flight will be invited 6 days prior to departure to opt-in to the proposition and be automatically checked-in for their flight. Confirmation and/or their boarding pass will be sent to them via email at -25hrs.
Phase 1 of the trial will be offered on the following services for travel on or after 2 October 2013:
LHR - FCO - LHR BA 554/549
LHR - VIE - LHR BA 702/701
LHR - CPH - LHR BA 820/815
LHR - YVR - LHR BA 85/84
LHR - YYZ - LHR BA 93/92
LGW - MRU - LGW BA 2063/2062
LGW - CUN - LGW BA 2203/2202
How customers will experience the service
6 days before travel, eligible customers will be sent an invitation to opt-in, asking them to set their preferences.
At -48hrs before departure the option to be automatically checked-in closes.
Between -48hrs and -26hrs seat assignment will take place and customers will be automatically checked-in.
Customers departing from London Heathrow Terminal 5 will be sent an email with their boarding pass attachment at -25hrs.
All remaining customers will be sent email at -25hrs confirming check-in and asking how they would like to receive their boarding pass.
Customer eligibility for ACI
To be eligible customers must have accepted their invitation for ACI, provided an email address, have a confirmed ticket for travel and have completed mandatory Advance Passenger Information.
Should customers wish to change their seat allocation following ACI they must call our contact centres for assistance as this cannot be actioned online.

From 30 September 2013, British Airways and Sabre will implement the Electronic Miscellaneous Document (EMD-S) in BSP UK and Northern Ireland.
From that date all travel agents using Sabre ticketing system will be expected to start issuing EMD-S when collecting Reservation Change Fees.
The enhancements offered by the EMD functionality mean, that the EMD number is automatically inserted in the PNR (SVC line), therefore travel agents are no longer required to update an OSI element in the PNR with the EMD number.
Effective 11 November 2013, EMD-S will become the only valid document for collection of reservation change fees.
Sabre agents in Republic of Ireland should continue to use the existing process of VMPD until we advise they will move to EMD as well.
We are simplifying our shorthaul point to point fare ladder and introducing a suite of new fare types, to offer customers travelling on our UK domestic and European flights more choice and greater flexibility.
The Hand Baggage Only (HBO) fare, introduced at London Gatwick in February, will be extended to selected routes to/from London Heathrow and London City and new Semi-flex and Fully-flex fares will be introduced:
The suite of new fare types, including the HBO fare will be trialled on the following routes and are available for sale from 11 September for travel from 24 September 2013:
New more flexible fare attributes mean that customers will have the option to make changes to their itinerary with no change fee and the ability to be able to make changes to their ticket on the day of travel free of charge.
Semi-flex tickets will also give customers the opportunity to select their seat free of charge two days in advance of travel and Fully-flex tickets allow customers to choose their seat free of charge at any time.
We’ve listened to customer feedback and recognise that customers sometimes want more control over their travel plans. This means giving them greater flexibility to be able to change their booking, particularly on the day of travel, or giving them a lower price when they don’t need to travel with checked baggage and they know their plans won’t change.
Our standard Euro Traveller fares will continue to be available year-round.
