Unaccompanied Minors (UMs)

14 July 2009

British Airways offers an Unaccompanied Minors (UMs) service (Skyflyers Solo) and applies special procedures for this.

The service supplement for longhaul travel will change for sales made from 28 July for travel commencing from 01 October 2009. Details below. Shorthaul levels remain unchanged.

Please note that all UMs will pay full fares. This means that on those fares where there is a child discount (eg Children pay 75%) this will only apply to accompanied children.

Service supplement
Bookings for an Unaccompanied Minor to fly with British Airways are charged a supplement.

For shorthaul travel:
This is USD50.00 or equivalent a single journey (USD100.00 or equivalent for a return journey)

For longhaul travel:
For travel commencing before 01 October 2009, this is USD50.00 or equivalent a single journey (USD100.00 or equivalent for a return journey)

For travel commencing from 01 October 2009 for sales made on or after 28 July 2009, this is USD75.00 or equivalent for a single journey (USD150.00 or equivalent for a return journey)

Bookings must be made at least 48 hours before travel
This means that we need at least 48 hours notice that a UM is travelling. This applies also if bookings for a UM change or bookings for non UMs change into UM bookings.

Bookings must be fully completed
The following details must be included in the PNR
- Passport details and date of birth of the UM.
- Name and address and telephone no of the person escorting the UM to the airport and their relationship to them.
- Name and address and telephone no of the person collecting the UM at destination and their relationship to them.
- A contact telephone no (available 24 hours) where nominated parent/guardian can always be contacted at departing and arriving airports (Very important if there are any flight disruptions)

If a UM turns up at the airport to check in and the PNR does not identify them as a UM or show their details, then they could be refused travel.
